A study on the Job Analysis and Curriculum for Senior Counseling Personnel

Abstract
The purposes of the current study are analyze duties and tasks implemented by senior counseling personnel at welfare institutions for the aged through a job analysis, and develop training course and attempt job training based on the result of the job analysis. In order to examine duties of counselors for the old, DACUM (Developing A Curriculum) job analysis method was used, and the total 14 persons including facilitators, panelists, coordinators and recorders participated in the study. As a result, it was found that counselors for the old implement 86 tasks in 10 duty groups such as ¡®planning senior
counseling¡¯, ¡®publicizing senior counseling¡¯, ¡®performing senior counseling¡¯, ¡®providing psychological test for the old¡¯, ¡®psychological senior counseling¡¯, ¡®cooperating with organizations related with the old¡¯, ¡®providing information on daily life of the old¡¯, ¡®counseling about dementia¡¯, ¡®counseling about abuse for the old¡¯, and ¡®training for counselor and self-development¡¯. The 100-hour training course was developed considering the degree of importance, the degree of difficulty and performance frequency observed at the job analysis. The training course consists of 18 hours of general knowledge, 62 hours of professional area and 20 hours of other sections (group discussion, case presentation and practice). From job training for senior counseling for 67 workers at welfare institutions for the aged, it was found that the job training was helpful for their job performance ability or self-development (M=4.36).
